One-Of-A-Kind Artwork Handpainted from Your Photograph

Encaustic fine art print, framed.

Although the process of encaustic artwork is ancient, you could be easily forgiven for never having even heard of this art process before. Incorporating beeswax, resin, and artist’s paints and other mediums, layers of colour and texture is burnt into the wax and suspended. I’ve exhibited original works in this medium at the Retrospect Gallery, Byron Bay.

The result of the process when applied over photographs is a beautifully spontaneous and imperfect, softened, slightly muted surface that can then be painted and collaged to enhance the light and form of the image.

I love the effect that combining the ancient and modern processes of encaustic, painting, and photography create. Milk Bath Maternity images are especially enhanced by the soft blooming of the wax and take on a mystical appearance every bit as magical and mystical as the process of pregnancy and growing a new life itself. The patina of butterfly wings formed from inks, and softened and clouded by the wax medium. Oil paints, pastels and glints of metallic enhancing the beauty of form emerging from the milky water.

Through experimenting with various techniques, I’m able to offer you my digitally reproduced custom artwork onto your images to create a piece of unique beauty and emotion. Your art is then printed on fine art rag paper using museum grade professional printing inks and papers. The result is a multi-layered, one-of-a-kind piece of art based on your original photograph and able to be then framed as a fine art print.

These pieces hover somewhere between the realism of the photograph and the soft, layered markings of a painting. Printing them on hand made paper is the icing on the cake. The texture. The muted colour palette. Is it a photograph or a painting? Is that your beautiful and mystical pregnant form in that artwork? I’m really excited to offer this art experience to my clients that love to have meaningful and authentic artwork in their homes. If you’d love to see your beautiful pregnant form created into a sublime work of art based on your photographic image get in touch here.
